Popular Event Rental Needs in Berthoud

Common Berthoud setups, from pavilion parties to weddings on open land.

  • Pavilion Birthday Parties

With pavilions seating a few dozen, a birthday party often adds a canopy, extra tables and chairs and a few party rentals. Pioneer Park has outlets but no grills, so plan cold food or catering there.

  • Bounce Houses at Pioneer Park

Pioneer Park lists a bounce house install section among its pavilion features. Ask the provider for the unit's footprint and power needs, and mention the inflatable in your pavilion request.

  • Farm and Acreage Weddings

Weddings on farmland around Berthoud often start from bare ground: a tent, seating, a dance floor, lighting, power and restrooms. Check the county first, since a property outside town limits may need a Larimer or Weld County permit.

  • Tents and the 20-Foot Rule

Berthoud Fire keeps tents 20 feet from lot lines, buildings, parked vehicles and engines, counting guy ropes. In a backyard, that can limit tent size more than the guest count does, so measure before you order.

  • Restrooms Where Pavilions Have None

Roberts Lake has no public restrooms, and Town Park's are closed October through May. Portable units or a restroom trailer fill the gap, especially for spring and fall events.

    Explore Restroom Trailer Rentals
  • Community Events and Stages

Events open to the public need a Town special event permit, and large ones may also need a Planned Outdoor Event permit from Berthoud Fire. Plan the stage, sound and vendor layout before you draw the site plan.

Planning an Event in Berthoud?

Berthoud calls itself the Garden Spot of Colorado. The Town was incorporated in 1888, named for Edward L. Berthoud, and agriculture is still a large part of the community, according to its budget documents. Its land is split about 54 percent in Larimer County and 46 percent in Weld County, though most residents live on the Larimer side, and the farms and acreages around town can sit in either county. That matters for events, because the permit office depends on where the property is: the Town inside town limits, or Larimer or Weld County outside them.

Town pavilions are built for small gatherings, with seating listed at 24 to 36 at most of them and six at Roberts Lake. Pioneer Park's three pavilions have electrical outlets and no grills, and the park has a bounce house install section. Town Park has charcoal grills, but its restrooms are seasonal and unavailable October through May; Waggener has year-round restrooms; and Roberts Lake has no public restrooms. Pavilion requests have to come in at least 30 days ahead. Any event open to the public, or a neighborhood function, is a special event that needs a Town permit: the Town responds to a preliminary request form within 72 hours, and the permit is submitted 30 to 60 days ahead depending on expected attendance, with alcohol permits due no later than 45 days before the event and two to three weeks for approval.

Berthoud Fire Protection District's rules reach every tent, not just the big ones. Tents and canopies over 700 square feet need a district permit, usually applied for by the tent company, with a flame-resistance certificate and a site plan. For tents of any size, no cooking, heating devices or fuel are allowed underneath, a serviced 2A:10BC fire extinguisher has to be on hand, and tents can't stand within 20 feet of lot lines, buildings, parked vehicles or engines, with guy ropes counted in the distance. The district also lists minimum anchor weights: 40 pounds per leg for a 10-by-10 canopy, 80 pounds per leg for a 10-by-20 and 500 pounds per leg for a six-leg 40-by-20 tent.

Bigger events add steps. A Planned Outdoor Event permit from the district applies to events with 1,000 or more people or four or more tents of 700 square feet or more, and the district decides during review whether a fire standby crew is required. Food trucks with a generator or propane need a district inspection and permit at least 10 business days before the event, though a permit from one of the participating Larimer and Weld County fire departments is honored at the others through December 31. Outside town limits, Larimer County requires a Private Land Special Event permit when attendance is expected to exceed 40 people, and the district points organizers to Weld and Boulder County special event permits as well.
